Bulldogs, originally showed off by their proud owners by fighting bulls to the death, were once long, lean, fit, and athletic dogs.
Over years of selective breeding, they have become prone to almost any disease imaginable. With problems ranging everywhere from pudgy noses and legs to excessive wrinkles, their life span has been shortened to an average of 6.25 years. Because they are so wide, it is impossible for them to give birth without a cesarean section.
